WIIITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15. 1986 PAGE 11 FROM PG.l Brooklin and area conservatives eleet new executive for '86 Liberals would probably corne away with a majority government. .There's one con- solation ln aIl of this but we'Il need your support. People's thinking can change very quîckly we learned that our- other ay uthes quikly " aidMr.Ashe. The Lbera-NDPac- cordshold crrythe provnce nto 1987 befoe antherelection is alld ut r.Ashe said he-acord"isn't worth the paper it's wrtten on. " >"Eventually the Liberals are going to reach the point where they won't be able to swallow anyrnore of the NDP's socialist policies," said the politician. He referred to son and his Liberals as a Puppet government elecltio. iven thee of spportfor tyhe r. Asedheoncudedrthat 76 percent of the elec-s inlsc as povnca Mr. Ashe urdther denounced the fact that the accord protects the Liberal government from being defeated by a vote of non-confidence and said that a gover- nment must "stand and fal" on the basis of each bill that cornes before the legislature. "That's not our system," said Mr. Ashe of the Grit-NDP agreement. Speculating on Why the Conservatives bast the popular vote last spring the MPP laid much of the blame at the door of the media which he said was un- fair in its reporting of the Frank Mller cam- paign. Infact, he said the media's bias per- sists even now and is largely responsible for the Ilhoneymoon" thse Peterson government is enjoying with the elec- torate. Mr. Ashe maintained that Mr. Peterson's per- formance at Queen's Park has been less than impressive but said this fact is not being fully reported. "He laughs off everything. He's not an- swering our questions. It's the job of the gover- nment to answer our questions and I can't understand why the press isn't harping on that, " said Mr. Ashe. Until the media becomes more fair in its coverage, Mr, Ashe said the current government would be difficult to beat. The MPP predicted the latest the Liberals will caîl an election is the spring of 1987 and that an elecion this year is a definate possibility. In the mean- time. he said the Con- servatives have a strong team under new leader Larry Grossman and that the job before them will be to convince the electorate of that strength. "We didn't do a good enough job of telling people what a good job we did last time and what a great province this really is. At last there is a regional councillor with enough integrity to stand up for what he feels is right. John, as you know. has refused to attend a two day seminar at Pinestone in Haliburton, because he feels (and rightly sot that Durham Counillors should hold their strategy con- flabs within the confines of Durham Region. Many Regional councillors have confessed that the location for the seminar is wrong, but few, if any. except Aker, have enough backbone to refuse a tten- dance. Me thinks that if more of the counillors refused, the location would be changed, but then. maybe they would miss out on a winter get-away. Have fun. CONDOLENCES Neighbours and friends in the Corridor Area, ex- tend our sympathies to Barb Kennedy at the loss of her husband Nick. BIRTHDAY PARTY' There's going to be a birthday party.
