The team started the tournament witb a strong effort and defeated Wexford 8-4. Scoring for Whitby were Jason Bradimore witb 3, Kevin Rowlands 2, Kristin Brown 1, Christian Rock 1 and Shawn Keogin 1. The second game was against a -tough Ajax team and in a exciting game Whitby won 4-3. Scoring for Whitby were Kristin Brown, 2, Jason Bradimore, 1 and Ron Kapuscinski. Their third game was much easier and they slower West Hll team 5- 1. Scoring for Witby were Chris Brady, 1, Cam Schilling, 1, Kristin Brown, 2 and Christiar Rock, 1. The fourtb game was the only one lost by the team at the tournament, a 4-2 lost to Scarboro Catholic. Both teams were evenly matched and the game was played at a blistering pace. Witby recieved outstanding goaltending in this game, with the last Scarboro game scored in an effort to tie the score. Scoring for Whitby were Kristin Brown and Kevin Rowland. The final champion- ship game once again provided fast exciting hockey with Whitby prevailing over an agressive Malvern team 3-2. Scoring for Witby were Christian Rock, Cam Schilling and Jason Bradimore. SEE PG. 22 Atom "IBB" rep. team having great season If things keep going the way they have for the Brooklin Whitby Mr. Grocer Atom "B" rep teamn this year they might just be headed for a berth in the provincial championships. Stili only in mid- season, the boys have chalked up some big tournament wins and have lost only five of their last 27 games in the Lakeshore League where tbey are in first place. The boys were finalists in a St. Catherines tournament early in November and later that montb went on to win in a tournament in Fenelon Falls where they convincingly trounced a team from the Kingston area for the championships. In similar form, the boys went on to win the "B" side consolation in Little Britain Nov. 30 after they beat Oshawa 11-1. In December, the Atom "BBs" lost the final in an "A" division tournament in Rich- mond Hill and later that month in another "A" in Port Hope contest, the boys were edged out in a hard fought final by Cobourg. The boys are a bard working bunch, accor- ding to coach Wayne Lylyk, but witb league playoffs creeping up he is a littie concerned about ïhe lack of ice- tinte available to the tearn for practice. "We've been keeping in shape by purcbasing ice-time in Ajax- Pickering out of our team funds but without any local ice to trade off our team funds will soon be depleted and that could really put a crimp in our tentative exhibition tour to Mon- treal in March," said Lylyk last week. Without more ice time thse coach is concerned that the teamn will not continue to develop the way they should if they want to continue to be competitive. "I've only been a resident here for ten years but to my knowledge Whitby bas two ice pads available to a population of 6,500 people. Now we are 42,000 with only two ice pads available. "I understand another surface is on its way but so is Christmas 86, " said Lylyk. In the interins however, coach Lylyk said the boys will just have to continue to take whatever practice time they can find available. "With the town growing at such a rapid rate the two ice pads available for minor hockey make it very dif- ficuit to stay corn- petitive.
