Council voted Monday ta assume full responsibiiity for the clearance of snow on ail sidewaiks in the municipaiity. Despite the unanimity of the town's decision, the resoiution did not pass without a squir- misli. The strife was a resuit of an amendînent proposed by Centre Ward Coun. Marcel Brunelie requesting that a ceiling of $10 per liousehoid be piaced on snow removai expen- ditures. If costs were ta exceed this amount, lie argued, the town shouid re-examîne its pan ta clear the sîdewalks. Bruneile's figure of $10 is double the amount town officiais say the plan ta clear ail sidewalks in the municipality wiil cost. Given the tendancy of governments ta overexpend. liowever. Brunelie argued that the sidewalk clearance could weli end up costing more than the projected amount. Athougli the ratepayers generaiiy favor the towns plan ta ciear the snow. he said. they have expressed concerns about the cost. If counei is unsure that it lias the peopies support on this matter or that t can keep costs down. then it sliouidn't be passing the resolution at ail, responded West Ward Coun. Joe Bugeili. The Warrîors secured their dlaimn as Canada's finest lacrosse squad Sunday night when they defeated the Esquimait Legion of Victoria, B.C. 16-8 in the last game of their best-of-seven series. The squad were assured of their titie lialf-way through one of the Most tliriiiing lacrosse games playecs in Whitby this year. Over 1,700 enthusiastie fans turned out ta cheer them on. Although Equimalt jumped into a 4-2 iead eariy in the first period, the Warriors bounced back to take a 7-4 iead into the second stanza. And fromn there, they neyer iooked back. They ended the second period with an 11-5 margin that paved the way for their 16-8 finish.
