It was the Halloween Dance but because it was one week before the officiai wit- ching night, not mnany were in costume. However, those who did dress-up were really a sight to see. There were clowns, pirates, bellydancers, Rambos and Indiana Joneses. The decorations were scary, with black and orange balloons drop- ped fromn the ceiling as an added thriller. The first segment of the Canadian 'Mathemnatics Contest was completed on Oct. 29. Over 25 students from grades 10 to 13 Scompeted in the contest. The top papers were submaitted to the board and the results of our school's standing should be in next month. There jare seven tests to be ýwritten. The senior boys soc- cer teamn lost their semni- ifinal gane to O'Neill ;1Collegiate on Oct. 29. Wally Borg scored the only goal for our side but O'Neill already had two points at the timne. Unfortunately, they could not catch up and the final score was 5-1 for O'Neill. The guys had a good season and are looking forward to next year's play. DO'C is submnitting a boys hockey team in the high school league. Mr. Fitzgibbon is the coach and he is holding try- outs and practices on weekday mornings at the Ajax Cornmunity Centre. Final cuts are Stijl being made but we are ail looking forward to watching some good hockey games in the near future. Final October DO'C- A-THON collections have been held this past week. The total amount collected thus far is well over M3,000. Thanks to everyone who helped us out. On Nov. 7 the French Club is going out on the town. The town is Toronto and the place is La Papilon Restaurant. Mouths are beginning to water in anticipation of No free lunch but sill a great deal for seniors If you're 55 and above and would like to get out of the house a little more, the Whitby Senior's Coop has a deal you can't afford to pass up. Now get this. A full course meal with soup, a roll, meat, potatoes and vegetables and desert for only $2.50. Lunch, which is prepared especially for seniors by Hillsdale Manor, is served three tises a week at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Brock St. N., right next door to the Whitby Free Press. That's Monday, Wednesday and Friday at high noon. And it doesn't end with the meal. Mfter lunch, you'll play a little social bingo or just mingle with friends. Says coop president Phyllis Cmn- namon: "We just want to get people out of their houses" The coop is strictiy non-denominational and transportation can be arranged for a nominal fee through Community Care. The grade 13's who are going to university or college next year are getting plenty of infor- mation to make their choices. Presentations from the University of Waterloo, York, Toronto and Durham College have been given. Thanks to the Guidance Counsellors for their organization. In ad- dition, a bookiet called "Horizons" has been made available to each student to facilitate the choice-making. To alI those students who want to kriow how they. are doing academically, you will soon find out because mid-term reports are going home on Nov. 8. It is too late to bring your mark Up this term, but it isn't too late to bring it up before the January examinations. Good luck to all. Are some of you ex- periencing mid- semester blues? Cheer Up because there is a Professional Activity Day on Nov. 15. It will give you a chance to relax, catch up on your favorite soap opera, or do some early Christ- mas shopping.
