WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30. 1985, PAGE 17 1986 Audi 5000 S For 1986, Audi engineers have retained aIl the elegance of the 5000 S while building in more performance. The new model receives a slightly larger five- cylinder engine which cuts the zero-to-BO ac- celeration time of the three-speed automatic transmission model by almost a second. At the same time, ad- vances in Audi product durability are reflected in an upgraded limited warranty against corrosion perforation which now extends for six years with no restriction on kilometres. Considering the strong market accep- tance of the 5000 S, Audi chose only the most sub- te refînements to its elegant design. These include a revised, wide wrap-around protective moulding and a variety of new metallic colour combinations. The displacement is increased to 2.22 litres from last year's 2.14 litres. The torque peak is now lower in the rpm range and thus, better mated to the optional three-speed automnatic transmission. Ac- celeration figures for zero-to-80 kmph are now 12.3 seconds for the automatic and 10.3 seconds for the five- speed manual tran- smission. Under the revised fuel economy rating system issued by Transport Canada for 1986, the economy rating for the Audi 5000 S suffers no loss, despite the im- proved performance. Retained for 1986 is the classically propor- tioned aerodynamic styling of the 5000 S. Audi aerodynamicists, designers and engineers meticulously formed the shape for maximum ef- ficiency to aid fuel economy and reduce in- terior noise levels at speed, while providing a look of functional eleganice. The design provides such benefits without the need for add-on aerodynamnic devices. An equal amount of design care has gone in- to the 1986 Audi 5000 S below the skin. Com- puter-aided design and technologically advan- ced assembly yield a high quality look 'and maximum strength with minimum vehicle weight. Extensive use of pre-treated componen- ts, cataphoretic dip primer coating, hot wax cavity flooding and PVC under-sealant ashow Audi to offer one of the best corrosion protec- tion warranties in the industry. The 1986 Audi 5000 S is fully-equipped. The in- strument package features large, clear analog gauges. Tachometer and speedometer are direc- tly in front of the driver with white numerals on a black field -- illuminated in red so as not to interfere with night vision. A com- puterized auto-check system monitors 13 vehicle functions such as brakes, lights, tem- perature and fluid levels. Light controls, turn signais, cruise con- trol, wipers, and other controls are stalk- mounted and can be operated with the driver's hands on the wheel. Standard equipment includes rack and pinion steering, and vented disc front brakes -- both power-assisted via a central hydraulic system. A standard equipment digital- electronic climate con- trol system allows the driver to set the desired interior temperature just once -- the system F Owasco Exponds In order to serve the Durham Region better, Owasco Volkswagen is doubling the size of its service department, body shop, part depar- tment and sales force.
