OCTOBElR 23, 1985, Wl Broklin Bylines By BETTY-JEAN BLYTH Cal 655-3679 with Items for this column Have you ever noticed that as soon as a man becomes a husband, he becomes hard of hearing? It seems to be a sort of intermitant deafness. What I mean by that is he doesn't seem to have any trouble hearing the opening bars of the music that heralds the start of the hockey game even if he's out in the garage under the car but he can't hear his wife coo right in his ear "Please take out the garbage dear". At first I thought it must be just my man and that I was somehow to blame, that maybe I didn't speak clearly enough or get his undivided attention. Perhaps I should wear a football helmet or something? But then I began to realize from listening to other wives that it is a universal afflic- tion. Why, I was just reading that even Princess Di compalins that her husband doesn't listen to her! So if Prince Charming tunes out the Beautiful Prin- cess, what hope have we commoners got? HALLOWE'EN PARTY It's that time of year again when ghosts and goblins and "things that go bump in the night" come out to haunt us.
