The service, cailed SELECTEL (formerly called Optional Cailng Plan), was approved on May 24 by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). For a monthly fee of $3 for residence; $7.30 for business SELEC- TEL subscribers in Whitby and Brooklin are entitled to a one-third discount on al customer-dialed calîs placed to Toronto without operator assistance. This discount applies in ad- dition to existing evening and weekend discounts. The service will be available starting Nov. i. From Nov. 1 to Jan. 31, 1986, custamers will be able to subscribe to SELECTEL without in- curring the normally- applicable ad- ministration charges ($14 for residence; $2575 for business).
