Repairs to ail makes, Free hoaring tests day, grade 9s (froshes) aere expected to dress up accordlng to the theme given that year, and obey the orders of the senior students. Oniy grade 12s and 13s are ailowed to initiate, and they must have a licen- ce (purchased at the school for 250. This year's theme was babies!1 The new Ander- somians looked very childish, indeed, dressed in their diapers, bibs, bonnets, and pyjamas. Some carried doils, teddy bears, or blankets, and almost al wore a soother around their neck. Initiation began at about 8 arn. Friday. Initiation was permitted only in the front foyer and the main hall. By 8:30 arn. the foyer and hall were packed with froshes being initiated, seniors initiating, and others watching. Cameras were everywhere to ensure that this event would be included in this year's yearbook. I'm sure xnany seniors spent weeks deciding what to do to the grade nine froshes on Initiation Day. My reasoning for this is due DISý_TINCTIVE WEDDING INVITATIONS to the variety of ac- tivities froshes were in- structed to do. Some froshes had to roll tolet paper down the hall wlth their noses. Others sang and danced both on and around cafeteria tables. Many had llpstick smeared on their faces, and were sprayed with perfume, or even shaving cream. A couple of grade 9s were spotted crawling on their hands and knees while being led on a leash by a senior student. I also witnessed many bowing down to their senior initiators and worshipping thein. Several froshes did al of the above and more. A few escaped it com- pletely by either hiding upstairs in their homeroom, or by not dressing up. However, must of those who did not dress up got their fair punishment: Kangaroo Court! Here, at Kangaroo Court, our Student Council president, Cathal Flynn-Post, in his black robe, head- band, and combat boots, is judge, and his verdict is always, "Guiltyl1". To the theme of Sesamee Street, aIl of the grade 9s paraded into the gym in front of the entire school. The guilty were then called forth. Various punishements were dealt to disobedient frosh who either didn't dress up, or disobeyed a senior. Some were blindfolded and made to crawl un- der tables, jump rope, do sit-ups, and receive pies in the face. Next, there was a contest to see which frosh could cry the loudest. Balloons were shaved, blindfolded couples were made to eat op- posite ends of a piece of licorice until they met, and some were forced to feed each other while blindfolded. Then came the biggest punishment. First, the four unlucky candidates had to bob for bananas in a deep bucket of water. Then, each received a bowl filled with 5 lbs. of flour and were instruc- ted to find a jellybean in the flour without using their hands. With flour sticking to their wet searched for t.heir jellybeans. Suddenly, one rebellous frosb picked Up bis flour and dumped it ail over the Student Council mem- bers standing near hlm. The others continued to search for their jellybean, until tbey were informed by Cathal that there were no jellybeans in the flour. This is where the chaos began. The other three froshes then picked up their flour and hurled it at the seniors on stage, much to the delight of the audience. This event ended the session of Kangaroo Court. Initiation officially ended at 12 noon. At this time, froshes were per- mitted to change back into normal clothes. Seniors were no longer allowed to initiate. Initiation Day followed a week of ac- tivities planned specifically for the grade 9s. Games of football, British bull dog, and monster baîl, frosh versus seniors, were held during lunch "Enloy our Don't get weather BUT caught while it holding the lasts shovel!" a free barbeque was held for the grade aines. I think that everyone enjoyed themnselves during this year's Initiation. Hopefully, by keeping this event just for fun, initiation wii continue in future years. Ahl of the grade 9s that I talked to said they definltely want initiation when they become seniors. S0, I will finish this with one final message: Beware: Anderson frosh of tbe years to corne!
