I do it moetly for the friendship and camraderie," said the senior athlete. Competing in the 65- t"-9 age category, Jones placed third in the 10 km. cross.country run in Barrie's Molson Park and third in the 10 km. road race at York University. In f ield events, Jones finished fourth in both discus and the javelin. Asked about future plans to compete, Jônes said he'll keep on i-un- ning as long as he can. "Once I'm ton nid for the age category I'm in now, V'Il enter the 70-to- 74 category." Jones described him- self as young compared to many of this year's Masters. competitors. "'There was one 80-year- old-man pole vaulting," he exclaimed. For now, Jones will stay in shape by golfing and riding his bicycle. If Jones takes after the other competitors at he'll probably be in the running for at least another decade. This year's competition saw an 80-year-old valter, an 86-year-old swimmer and an 83-year-old javelin thrower with a hip prosthesis. While he's waiting to begin training for next year's games, Jones will stay fit by golfing and ridlng his bicycle. The spry gentleman, who says he's neyer owned a velilcle more high-powered than his bike, can probably be found right now teeing off at St. Andrews golf course in Scotland. "This time," he ex- plained before leaving, "îit's just for fun. It's not a coanpetiton" Came second in OBA finals.... juniors finish with 23m13 record The Whitby junior T.P.
