Free Press Staff Photo Club braves Algonqmîn trip By MARK SMITH Anderson C.V.I. Anderson Collegiates Outers' Club recently trekked north ta Algonquin Park ta par- ticipate in a memorable four-day excursion. Consisting o! 21 people, this gathering of seventeen students and four supervising teachers, Mrs. Bernard, Miss Davidson, Miss Rozon, and Mr. Williams, paddled their way in a strenuous ven- ture through the park's water-system. Outfittad with sevan canoes, these voyageurs found theniselves travelling froni Cash Lake ta Lake Louisa, and then back again, passing through sanie 12 ather lakes in between. Cavering 7,500 kilametres of partage, these auters were, un- doubted.ly, very tired but pleased with what they had accomplishad. Preparatian for this event cammenced back in January. Swimming classes were attended by everyane invalved;, endurance and life- saving techniques were practised in these marine exercises. Canoe rescue instruc- tion played another im- portant raie in tha preparation. Two prac- tise canaeing sessions were held in the local area. These thoughtful preparatians were wall worth the effort as no accidents occurrad awing ta the students' cautious attitudes. For this auting, the studants designad their own menus and pur- chased their own food. The studants ware responsibla for the praparatian at camp, as wall as the cleaning up af tha site upan depar- ture. Ovarail, the axperian- ce shared by these seventeen students and four teachers was a satisfying ane. Said Mr. Williams, "This kind of physical activity, in which young push their bodies is essentiai ta the develapment of pride and self confidence. This activity is also im- portant because it operation and a respect for the enviranment." The efforts of everyone involved made this Algonquin excur- sion a successful one.
