The Whitby Iroquois Soccer Club's minor mosquito rep teain opened their season last Wednesday on a win- ning note downing Pickering 3-0. They opened the firat haif on the attack, taking advantage of two goal acoring oppor- tunities. Finding the net were Shane Bevan and Roberto Aibis. In the second haîf, they continued to press the attack although they failed to take full advan- tage of ail the scoring opportunities they had. Frankt Stefanowicz Whitby played hoat to the Peterborough teama on Saturday, and on Sunday travelied to Peterborough to com- plete a inoat succesaful weekend of lacrosse for Whitby and a shattering one for Peterborough. The Tyke Rednien played the opening gaine, many of the scored the final goal and was also named the game'a M.V.P. Earning the shut-out for the Whitby squad, which la aponsored by Stairways, was Mark Sholtes. Prior to opening the regular season, the squad participated in a Guelph, Ont. tour- nament. They defeated Guelph 5-0; Woolwich 8- 0; and, in a tough battle, Malton 2-O. They advanced to the final round againat Lon- don where they bast 5-1 to bring home the run- ner's-up trophy. Scott MacDonnel and Shaydon Santos ac- cumtlated six goals each, Rohan Mehta five goals, Steve Taylor and Mike Maasey had four Judo For the third year running, Whitby's Glenn Beauchamp has won the Canadian Senior Men's Judo Championship. The 23-year old Olym- pian won the title in a tournament held in Lethbridge, Alberta over the weekend. Beauchamp, a student at Waterloo University, came fourth in last year's judo competition at the Los Angelos Olympica. in other Whitby judo news, Beauchampas brother, Stephen, won a silver medal at the AM- CAN Tournament held in Buffalo, New York on the weekend. Beauchamp faced American Olympians on his way to the medal. Yet another auccesa story waa the Cheekers Variety bantama who earned a 14-O shut-out. The bantama second game in Peterborough proved to be almost as fruitful with a 12-1 win. The goal accumulation for the weekend was Jeff Whittle with five, Todd Wilson wlth four, Mark Ainsworth and Trevor Banda had three each, Chris Tucker and Adam Foote two and single goals by Neil Grubb, Chris Vanclief, Adam Drew, Chris Husted, Paul Hamilton, Brian Munro and Brian Shalfoon. Responsible for the assists were Brian Shalfoon with three and with two each, Greg Rennie and Whittle. The W.G.R. midget team played a good defensive game an- chored by goalie Chria Fowlie and resulting in a 7-4 win. Greg Van- sickle scored four goals, Todd Wilson, Steve Comb all adding one each. The midget gaine in Peterborough was lost by default during the second period, when Whitby badly outnum- bered with added in- juries had to concede. To start a season with scores such as tbese against an opponent of indicates that Whitby la entering highly skilled young players into this year's lacrosse com- petition.
