Public school suppor- ters whose home is assessed at $5,000 will pay $1,292.0ln property taxes this year - 5.3 per cent more than 1984's $1,227.50. The biggest piece of the bill was Ievied by the Durham Board of Education. Property tax for school purposes will account for $669 of the bill. This represents a $46 or 7.4 per cent in- crease over 1984's $623. Durham Regional Council bais impased an 8.8 per cent increase in is praperty tex bill. The region now accounts for $234.50 of the average bill - $19 mare than last year. Witby Town Council will take $389 of the tax- bill, the same amount as it did last year. The Durham Board of Educatian accounted for 49.9 cents of every property tax dollar paid by Wbitby residents In 1983. In 1985, the board will take 51.7 cents of every property tex dollar. The separate schaol board bas levied a tex increase of 9.7 per cent on its Whitby suppor- ters. Those residents will pay an average of $704 in scbool praperty taxes, $62 more tban the taxes, $62 more than tbey paid in 1984.
