By BEIITY-JEAN BLYTH Cali 655-3679 wlth Items for this column Moving day is one of those nightmares most of us are forced to face sooner or later in this life. I have met the odd person who seems to manage it in a quiet and orderiy manner and stili retain some degree of sanity. Not me, Oh, I always st.art out that way - I neatiy pack reiated items in separate boxes and cartons ail neatly labelled as to contents and destination. 1 tell myseif that this tirne 'm realiy organized with a capital 'O'. 1 even have a box labeiied miscelianeous and that's where my trouble begins. The 'Misc.' box starts out holding ail those littie items that defy catagorization and go on to include the bits and pieces lef t out of their respective boxes for lack of space or because they were o',eriooked. Before I know it, the 'Mîsc.' box begins to reproduce itself until it has taken on an identity of its own and outnumbers ail the others put together. You see, I corne from a long uine of pack rats. We not oniy save oid magazines, we save the covers they corne in; not oniy the kids old baby booties but their teething rings ... in short, everything including K &M Get aslO0.00 CLEANERS gifi certificaie for SAME DAY SERVICE ALTERATIONS AND REPAIRS Seatood end Steak Hou»e with every 114.9 dry cleaning order. 112 Coiborne St. W. 4 Ceaning Servae for the botir aiv hty6 82 3 ATTENTION ALL SKEPTICS CHRISTIANITY IS A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO THE HUMANISTIC PHILOSOPHIES YOU BELIEVE! A note: 40 per cent of medium family sized farms in the U.S. are on the verge of bankruptcy. It is small comfort to Canadians to realize that our dollar is stronger in terms of the British poumd, the Lira, the Deutschmark, and the French and Swiss franc. Our principal trading partner is the United States. Their runaway dollar is kilihng us. Sure weIli export more--but what about what we have to import. Finaily, the problem is that the Americans cannol dance to their own tune and let the rest of the world step on its own toes. President Reagan's statement last week in which he said the American economy was strong and that ,the other countries shouid take heed of it, and that he wouid not intervene to stablize the dollar, is like Marie Antoinette's response 10 the rioting French peasantry. What's more, it is self-destructive. It is iying to the American people. The artificial inflow of capital is not "prosperity. " Worst of ail, one country cannol disiocate the worid's currencies and hope 10, sur- vive. It is bad enough for the developed countries of Europe and for Canada--think whaî il is doing to the nearly bankrupt Third World countries who may neyer gel out fromn under the money borrowed - borrowed from American banks - repayable now in high flying dollars. American survivai Reagan-style is chaos world- wide. Be warned. _ _ _ _ centre string too short to use. (You neyer know when it might corne in handy someday). As a result, our famiiy tends to stay where we're put. Our reputation for iongevity cornes from the fact that we become preserved in a mountain of momentos - sort of modern day versions of the Pompeii archeological site where a whoie city was discovered perfectly preserved in voicanic ash. Ail this is leading up to the fact that I'm moving. Not my home this time but my store. Once the decision was made, I aiso decided that this time would be different, this time I would be completely ruthiess. I wouid keep nothing that hadn't been used in the last six months and isn't required for tax pur- poses. (The latter is a plot by our government to turn us ail into pack rats and have us bury ourseives in reams of old records where our voices of protest wiii be effectively muffled.) Anyway I sorted and sifted until I had dispatched three truckioads of garbage and I'm ieft with just a haif dozen cartons (two neatly labeiled and catagorized, four 'misc.'). That takes care of my desk, now for the rest of the shop .. DeoaWOMENà INSTITUTE Du oamisprint last week, probably mine, I stated that the next meeting of Brookiin Women's Institute would take place in Whitby, at, as far as 1 know, a non-existent place. the reai place is Lynde House and the date is March 20.
