CONT'D FROM PG. 5 giving their children a "better life."1 "It would be better," I said, "To have those children see life as varied and exciting; to see streets with a variety of people walking and gawking and talking." "And what" I asked, "Is 50 'safe' about life out in subdivision heaven? " Her answer didn't satisfy me. Perhaps it will satisfy you. "If it's so bad, what are you doing here trying to run a theatre? " Good question. But it is because I believe that there is a will to do more than exist with a roof over your head, a supermarket within driving distance, a shopping mail, and a superhighway. And so, when I write about a downtown with spirit, a place for people, I am saying that what we need most is the "lwill" of the people in the city or the town to enrich their lives, to "be" downtown, to encourage activities that are commerce yes, but that are also food for the spirit. Or do you believe that man CAN live by bread alone' THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN0F WHITBY PROCLAMATION LOCAL GOVERN MENT WEEK TAKE NOTICE THAT the week of January 14 to 19, 1985, Is hereby proclaimed as "Local Government Week" in and for the Town of Whllby.
