PAGE 20, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMB ER 21, 1984, WHITBY FREE PRESS ENTR A IME>NT Andre, Roy pruvides a good but nhiÏbite.d performance By MARC VINCENT Free Press Staff In a comfortable lounge setting, amidist flickering candies, the sounds of George Ben-' son and Willie Nelson fills the room. Andre Roy, a jazz guitarist from Mon- treal, 15 currently enter- taining 'guests at the Coach Stop Lounge in the Old Liverpool House in Pickering with a mix- ture of old dinner mnusic and light jazz. Playing a variety of songs by, Roy comnbines a sniooth melodie voice with a fine-tuned six string acoustie gui tar. The resuit is a pleasanlt evenîng in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The Coach Stop Lounge is a smnall, low- ceilinged room with stuccoed walls and traditional decor. Within the setting An- dre Roy, and oc- casionally Heather Ar- den, performs some of the old, popular classics mixed with some jazz and current hit singles. Both have rich and mellow voices that when combined give a soft duo. I-owever, because of the size of the roomn and the audience the performance seems restricted. Roy perfor- ms the songs well but bis true talent, and îýemôtionà is'only reve aled >when he performs jazz, something, unfor- tunately, he did not do too often. The duet is well worth seeing if you enjoy ren- ditions of Frank Sinatra and Roger Whittaker. The team is planing to stay in, Pickering until February or longer and, will llkely play together more- often.î At the moment Arden, also the hostess sings at the end of each set. In the near future it is possible that Arden and Roy wîll sing their own songs which might prove to be very popular and much more en- joyable. Uninhibited, the two could provide hearty and emotional> perfor- mance,, however since they . must conform to the requests of their audience and the at- mosphere of the lounge, it seems slightly con- fined. Roy is also con- sidering bringing in a 7- string acoustic guitar which would give more bass in the performan- ce. Roy presently has, to,. satisfy ""the a '_'oi' paniement with a tyn; thiesizer. For an audience that, intends to sit and chat with an aquaintance or wait for a table upstairs in the dining room, to the accompaniement of old -popular hits, the evening could be 'time well spent. rLorrySlwY-& NuealoFÏirGerald present ,ý,'WHO IS 'ANDR Ee** ROY? ... spotlight the impressive gultar playing of Andre Roy.."
