The day will be kicked off with a "Sunrise Ser- vice" sponsored by the Whitby Ministerial Association and a pan- cake breakfast put on by the Whitby Rotary Club. Part of the day will feature field events such as sack races as well as a square dance exhibition and a break dance contest. There will also be a "Period Costume Con- test" in celebration of Ontario's Bicentennial. Participants should dress in the style favored in the 19th cen- tury. Admission to the event is free. BABYSITTING COURSE The Whitby Public Library will sponsor the annual Red Cross BabySitters' Course for children aged 12 and over. This eight-week cour- se will be held on Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Sept.11. Registration for the course will be accepted after Aug. 20 at the children's desk. There will be a $7 materials fee payable uporn registration. Only 20 places are available so the library advises early registration. For more information call 668-6531. FALL WALK The final nature walk of the Central Lake On- tario Conservation Authority's summer program will be held on Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. at the Lynde Shores Conser- vation Area, Victoria St. W., Whitby. The purpose of the walk is to observe the fail migration of birds and butterflys. Participants are asked to meet at the C.L.O.C.A. office, 100 Whiting Ave., Oshawa. CHAMBER MEETING The next meeting of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce will be held on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Cullen Gardens Rêstaurant. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of awards to the winners of the chamber's Marigold Contest. The guest speaker for the evening will be Reg. Coun. Gerry Emm. ONE PARENT MEETING The Oshawa Chapter of the One Parent Family Association of Canada meets every Tuesday at 8 p.m. at St. Andrew's Church, 71 Simcoe St. S., Oshawa.
