The Whitby win came in Oshawa while the local squad managed ta defeat their host 2-0. Ail of the runs were scored in the first inning when the bases were loaded on consecutive singles by Maurice Lefebvre, Phil Cochrane and Gary Vaughn. Brian Emory then stepped up to the plate, smashed another single, driving in two us. The rest of the game was a purely defensive effort with wrnning pit- cher Bill Michel striking out seven bat- ters i five inmings. Randy Underwood, who came on i relief i the sixth inning, struck out nine of the 12 batters he faced. The losing pitcher was Les Moskalewicz who struck out five Whitby batters in mine innings. In the next game, the two clubs fought to a 2-2 tie at Iroquois Park before the game was called on account of ramn at the end of the ninth inning. 1Bath -teams managed their two runs on six hits. The scoring was opened by Oshawa in their haif of the second inning when Dave Sîm hit a home mun over the left field fence. Whitby responded in the fourth when Steve Brooks hit a home run over the centre field fence. The rest of the scoring occured in the eighth in- ming. Oshawa's Peter Oosterhold advanced to second on a sacrifice af- ter himself hitting a single. He was then driven home on a single by Doug McMillan. Whltby responded their haîf of the inning when Phil Cochrane got on base with two men out.
