Several of the Whitby-Garrard Road teams looked for- ward to their matches witb several teamns from Peterborough. The WGR Peewee No. 1 team outscored their Peterborough cotjnter- parts 9 to 3. Wbitby scorers were Brian Grieves, Chris Husted and Garrett Campbell with 2 goals eacb, witb singles by Matt Cook, Chris Thompson and Alan Frank. The WGR Bantam "A" team sponsored by Cbeckers Variety beat out Peterborough ban- tams by 12 to 3. Adam Foote sparked tbe Whit- by team witb 3 goals, Jeff Wbittle scored twice witb otber markers by Todd Wilson, Julie Kernoban, Mike Husted, Rob Pad- dick, Mark Ainswortb, Mike Williams and Derek Jones. The Wbitby midget No. 1 team lead at one point by 9 to 6 but were unable to contain the Peterborough midgets for a full game. Peter- borough won 13 to 10. Lacrosse is continuing to gain popularity in tbis area. Wbitby bas ex- panded to two represen- tative teams in each of the following age groups: midget, ban- tam, peewee and novice and can field a full paper-weight teamn for those aged 6 or under. Most of the home games wiil be played at Iroquois on Tbursday evenings: Season opening win The Wbitby major atom. representative soccer team opened its 1984 season witb an im- pressive 4-nil win over Pickering Village last Tbursday night., -Cbalking up tbe, shutout was goalkeeper Mark Sholtes. Putting Whitby in the scoreboard witb two goals eacb were Shane Bevan and Derek Dixon. Bayford (3) and Frank Stefanowicz. The local squad sponsored by Lakes Wallpapers - put strong pressure on Pickering tbrougbout the garne. The final taily might bave been mucb bigber if it wasn't for somne great saves by the Pickering netminder.
