According to, Mike Aries, therýe are over 1,100 children registered to play this season in al age groupa. In fact, there wil be two less representative teams tis season not oniy because of lack of fields but shortage of both players and coaches. The only rep teams to, be -fielded will be a minor and major atom, minor and major mosquito and a minor pee wee team. Aries expects each of these teams to play in at least three tournaments this season. However, none of the tournaments wiil be held'in Whitby because of the field shortage. Aries said that the ahriznp (ages 5 and 6) and squirt (ages 7and 8) categories are already full to capacity. "There are not enough fields i the town to handle more," he said adding that these are the age groups where soccer is in real demand. "The real demand for playing soccer is from kids between 5 and 10 - they're the people who reaily want to play. " The atom division, for ages 9 and 10, have oniy a few vacancies left. A total of 52 boys house league teams and 13 girls' teama wiil be fielded this season. <Aries stresses that one of the club's most pressing needs is for coaches and to a leaser extent, -referees.
