M Have you ever noticed that they always take the sehool pictures when you least expect it? This is especially true if you happen to be the parent of a smail maie child. Usually, the first you hear about it is when your son cornes home one day and announ- ces that "lwe had our class picture taken today". As you look him. over from his dirty sneakers and torn jeans to, his shaggy head, you hall expect the next knock onthe door wMI be the Children's Aid Society. When the picture does come home, you discover with sorne relief that except for the littie girls and perhaps one maie exception, they ailllook like they're posing for an ad for UNICEF. I've often wondered about that lune exception, how does his mother do it? I picture a frazzled mom delivering a cellophane wrapped package which she deposits in the back row just before the shutter clicks. It's the back row because she's down there somewhere behind him with a knife in his back. At least that's my theory based on years of experience with small boys. To get back to, that picture, it's hardly the sort of thing you'll want to send to the grandparents, especially the in-laws. You just know that it would confirm their suspicions that their darling neyer should have married you in the first place. What you do is consign it to that netherland where you keep old receipts, letters you meant to, answer and other useless bits too good tu throw away. Sorneday -he may corne across it and find that it cornes in handy. I'm talking about the day -when he is a, father hirn- self and is giving his son a lecture on how hard times were when he was a boy. He'll have the indisputable proof 1 POTTERY CLASSES "Spring is sprung with a great big thud; Corne act like a kid a 'nd play in the mud".
