These services will include an all-news, all- sports and all-musie channels and are the result of last year's in- troduction of pay television to the - Canadian marketplace. Rogers Cable TV-Pine Ridge was founded in 1966 with 31 subscrib- ers and a choice of seven cable television channels. two pay television channels, the company offers 25 basic and con- verter channels as well as hook-ups for 22 FM radio stations. Rogers also boasts a local community chan- nel over which over 500 locally produced programs are broadcast each year. A fully equipped studio is of- ,fered to those members of the community who wish to try their hand at producing their own television program. Rogers began operating in 1966 with just 31 subscribers. It now serves 75 per cent of the homes throughout the Whitby, Brooklin, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Newcastle and Orono area. The company has 65 employees working in their technical, ad- ministration, program- ming -and marketing departments from their offices at 301 Marwood Dr., Oshawa. These people are responsible for more than 550 miles of un- derground cable that serve more than 42,000 subscribers. According to Rogers' general manager, Lorne McFadden: "The com- pany is currently gearing up technically to be ready to offer our subscribérs the best of what the future has to offer."
