Whitby- Brooklin B.P.A. is currently updatlng their files, if is important they be notified about any changes of address, new phone numbers, and necessary screenings for anyone turning 16 years of age. Every incident, no matter how small, needs to be reported to the respective area chairperson. In this way, the B.P.A. can judge the effectiveness of their program. They ahl attended the annual General Motors of' Canada Christmas Dinner and Toy Drive hosted by the Whitby South Office, Thickson Rd. S., on Dec. 14. The event began six yearsag when em- ployees left the South Main Office in Oshawa. It displays many architectural elements typical of its time including a simple yet 'elegant veranda trimmed with, treillage, a panelled door with cut glass, sidelights and wooden shingles. (b> Historical The house was built ln 1868 for John Shier, the fir- st County Engineer for -Ontario.County. He drew up Perry's and Werden's Plans upon which much of the older part of Whltby was bulît, and designed "lnverlynn" and "Perry's. Castle". James Willls owned the house from 1901 until his death in 1938. WillIis was a local business man who held several public positions including that of Mayor from 1913-1914. The dinner and toy drive continued as a festive tradition. This year, 290 salaried employees from the purchasing, material control, and- traffic departments donated 408 toys, 50 cans of' food,' and a $1,000 cheque to the Salvation Army. Lieut.« Austin Jacobs, from the OSA Social Services Department, happily accepted the donations for distribution among needy children and-their' families in the area.ý The toal proceeds came from dinner ticket sales, personal donations, a raffle, and an office dance that had been held at an earlier date. -The trio of clowns 'N-igel Schi11ing The Durham College Board of Governors elected Nigel Schilling of Whitby as Chairman at a meeting on Dec. 12. Schilling . has been a College governor since 1979, and has served as Vice Chairman of the Board as well as on key Board committees. A prominent Whitby Queen's Counsel, Nigel lias been very active in community affairs for several years, having served as a Director of theWhitby Chamber of Commerce; as Chair- mnan of the Whitby Chapter of the Ontario Heart Foundation; President of Whitby Ar- ts; President of the On- tario Riding of- the Young Progressive, playing. brass horns provided a pre-meal selection of 'Christmas carols. Then Don Hack- worth, President and general manager of GM Canada, a sisted by five executives, dished out the hot turkey dinner that had. been prepared by Tony's Catering.
