Hosted by, the Gloucester Skating Club, this important championship event will take place from Nov. 17 through Nov. 20 at the Orleans Sportsplex. The competition will see 138 singles skaters, 29 dan- ce pairs and 3 pairs vie for medals at the Juvenile, Pre-Novîce, Novice, Junior and Senior levels. Because of the large nuniber of Juvenile and Pre- Novice ladies, there wil be a run-off with the top skaters in each flight progressing to the finals. International calibre skating will be demon- strated as singles skaters Elizabeth Manley of Ottawa and Gordon Forbes of Brockville compote at the Senior level. Elizabeth, 18 and Gor- don, 24, have both won medals at home and abroad with their strong and exciting skating performances. Other in- ternational competitors hailing from Eastern Ontario are Isabelle and Paul Duchesnay, Minito Club Senior Dance com- petitors, and Campbell Sinclair of Ottawa. The top four competitors in Novice, Junior and Senior even- ts are entitled to com- pote in the Eastern Canada Divisionals in Thornhill, Ont., Dec. 8 to il and from there to the Canadian Champion- ships to be held in Regina, Sask., Jan. 9 to 15. The selection of Canada's World Team is made immediately after the Canadian Cham- pionships and is based on a number of criteria, particularly the skaters' standings at Canadians. The 1984 Worlds' will be held in Ottawa March 19 to 24. 1984 is also Olympic year in sports and the Olympic Winter Games are considered inter- national competitions, but not championships by the International Skating Union. The selection of the Canadian Team, is made by the Canadian Figure Skating Association with input from the Canadian Olympic Association and generaily reflects both Associations' confiden- ce in the ability of the named skaters. Because both the World Figure Skating championships and Olympic Winter Games will be held next year, _two different figure skating teams may be named at the discretion of the CFSA. The Winter Olympies will take place in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia Feb. 7 to 18. Eastern Ontario skaters at the senior level have been training and preparing for these important 'qualifying championships to win a berth of Canada's National Teams. From the budding, future skating champions to the current inter- national competitors, the Eastern Ontario Sectional Champion- ships promise to be an excellent dlsplay 0f figure skating talent. i l4th Annual S howi Open Mon.-Fri. 9-8 Sat & Sun 9-6 NORTH BROCK MOTOR SALES LTD.
