Durham College ]Expands friday mornlng, Ruth Milne, Chairman of the Durham Colege Board of Governors, and Sam Cureatz, M.P.P. for Durham East, the rlding i whlch the College lusltuated, tur- ned the sod to mark the beglnnlng of construc- tion for a new Skilll Trades and'Technology building at Durham Coilege. The Board Chairman explalned that Durham is again embarking on a building program to ac- commodate Its growing student population. The new building will not only bring, increased emphasis on high technology, but will_ provide muc'h needed classroom and instruc- tional space. There will be eight new classrooms, a robotics lab, a process control lab, a drafting room, a fibre optics lab, two electronic labs, and two CAD/CAM rooma wlth a central computer area. The College lo doubling the size of the exlstlng , H-Block machine shop. There wlll aiso be a new precision ._ metal fabrication area, and a fitter-welder room. Ruth Milne stated that the new building should accommodate up to 600 students, 'and 'will alleviate heavy student use of the main building. Maclnnis, cheif, co-rdinator for Durham Region's Federal uins Development Bank, was guest- speaker at aà special, program on profitable business management, held Oct. 26 at the Marigold Dmn- ner Theatre, Whitby. Maclnnis >spoke mainly of the program CASE, ' CounselIling Âsslstance of ýSmaill En- terprise. This program, which began in'1972, is one 6f the services of- fered by the Federal Develop ment Bank. It originally ,began_ with two offices and lias ex- panded to 45 offices that now- serve Canadians from coast to coast. 1CASE was established to provide expertise, by retired business people, to smail businesses' at a modest fee., CASE researchs the general market to see whetherj the business» could be Profitable and it also of- fers guidance in managing business properly. The program operates on a budget of $5.5 million and has ap- proximately 2,000 retired business people on cail as'councillors.
