They wori the OMLA Zone 6 Championships held at Iroquois Park Arena. As an added attraction this year, there was an Ail- Star game with the seiected players from the other teams chalienging the WGR Hideaway Peewee No. 1lteam. The ail-stars chosen from the Hideaways are: Derek Jones, Chris Tueker, Adam Foote and Keith Primeau. The WGR team out-classed even the ail-stars with a 9-4 wn. Whitby scoring was by Jones with two, Mark Ain- sworth, Andrew Vanderlinde, Foote,- Tucker, Mark Smith, Brad iley and Paul Windover. Shaune Aylesworth scored for the No. 2 teamn. This No. 2 team is composed of Whitby's minor- aged Peewees. They were ranked as the third strongest in the Zone so they had to playoff for the "A" titie. They later lost to Scarboro. The No. 1 team beat Scarboro 8-5 with two goals each by Primeau, Jones and MacDoneil and singles by Foote and Tueker. The No. 1 team romped to a 13-O shutout over Scarboro in the championship game. H1ideaway goals were by Tucker with three, Jones with two, Primeau, Page, Ainsworth, Van- derlinde, Foote, Maconeil, Smith and Windover. In the Bantam Zone Championships, the Peacock Sports team played a tought defensive game with Peterboro that ended in a 4-4 tie. Peacock goals were by Wayne Cornish with three and Tom Frank. In their second game, Scarboro demonstrateI just how fast the game of lacrosse can be. The score was tied 10-10 when the dlock was stopped with only three seconds to go. Scarboro was awarded possession of the bail, in the corner near the Whitby goal, they passed, they shot and scored and the dlock was stopped with one second to go. Whitby goals were by Cornish and Steve Dyment with four each, Simon Lewis and Frank., Because they won the Provincial Championships this year, the Peacock Sports Banta ms were chailenged'by the ail-star players from. the other teams iii Zone 6. Named as Ail-Stars from Whitby were Greg VànSiekle, Wayne Cornish, goaltender Chris Fowlie and Steve Dyment. They could not match the talent of the stars as they lost 11-3. Chris Keliar, Cornisb and Lewis scored for Whitby. This is the last game report for the 1983 season for Whitby-Garrard Road -Minor Lacrosse.. The annual meeting wil1 be Sunday, September 25 at 1 p.m. at Whitney Hall, Iroquois Park Arena. The Awards Banquýt will be October 2 at 1 p.m. at the Cepitenmial Building., .Everyone is invited to the Halloween Dance at Heydenshore Pavilion on Saturday October 15. They have been eliminated from the Oshawa and District fastbal, Brady Division, playoffs in two straight gamnes in the best-of-three quarter finals. Brooklin Legion, who gave the Whitby team ail they could handie throughout the season, took a 6-5 decision in 10- innings Thursday night to take the series. On Tuesday, they whitewashed Whitby 8- 0. ' ' Whitby came within one inning of extencling the series of three games but could not prevent Brookiin from tieing the score in the eighth. Brooklin took an early 2-O lead as. BillGryfis and larry Down each reached base on errors and both scored on a double by Paul Me- Crimmon. Whitby touched up Brookiin hurler Me- Crimmon for four runs in the second. Daryl Blake tripled and scored on an error. Brookiin's defence suffered a tem- porary lapse as Wayne Owen, Dan Denyer and JIM Spiers, ail reachied base on »errors., Peter Davidsoni's single scored two more runs. Brooklin tied the score 'in the bottom of the second as Gord Hooey walked, advan- ced on an error and scored'on a single by Gryils, who in turn scored on Down's single. Whitby took a 5-4 lead in the third as Blake reached base on, a fielder's 'choice, 'advan- ced Wo second on Mike Hawks Slo pitch champs and scored on Owen's single. Brooklln knotted the score in the elgbth as Steve Gryils singled, advanced to third on two passed bails and scored on a pinch hit single by Bob Rodd. Greg Gibson doubled in the winnlng run In the tenth, scoring Wayne Sorichetti. The previous game was no contest as Whît- by committed five errors while managing only three hits off Paul McCrimmon, who fan- ned 10 batters. Key bits for Brooklin were a home run and two singles by Sorichetti and a triple and double by Mecrilmmon.
