Everyone got a chance to taste eyebalis, bat eggs, wltches' teeth and drink witches' brew .... yum, yumli Costumes were fantastic and Terri McCalie, Tamara Downes and Melanie Godfrey were chosen the scatriest. Troy Jackson, Kathleen Kirk and Ryan Harker threw the witches' cat the longes distance. By the way, ask Terri McCalie, Brock Heron or Adamn Harker to cackle'for you....shivery staff. In keeping with the aims of the Cadet Movement, Catherine helps train Cadets at the Camp in leadership, citizenship, and physical fitness. Y.E.S. is a service free te both clients and employers. It provides vocational and em- ployment counselling tegether with, pre- employment training for Durham youths ages 16 to24. 0f the 305 Durham youths seen by Y.E.S. as of April 30, 73 per cent of the clients obtained full- time employment, en- tered government training programa, returned to school, or gained acceas to ap- propriate resources.. The foilowing capsule summar reflects the king of succeas Y.E.S. has enjoyed. (To ensure confidentiality, the naines and content have been changed) Mike was 19 years old, had quit achool in grade 10, and was trying to survive on welfare payments. He had left home when friction -with his parents became un- bearable. During, 1982,. hehad worked ,in, 9 dfeet jobs. His motiviation was low. Hie lacked any future goals and sensed that his life was drifting aimlessly. lHe hadn't developed job search techniques, nor was he aware of the skills- required to retain em- ployment. Beneath it ail, Mike did want to work, but requù r ed professional assistance. Af ter the ,iniuti4l' assessment, Y.E.S. referred Mike to a family counsellor to assist hlm in dealing with friction experien- ced with family mem- bers. Three months later, he returned to Y.E.S., better able to cope with emiployment. and vocational issues. With - the help of Y.E.S., Milce was able to focus his energies on those employinent areas in which he had both strengths and in- terests. For the past six mon- ths, 'Mike has been working as a* drywal laborer for a local con- struction firm. Hie en- joys his work and makes BEEF DRAW The Wltby Liones Club bas announced the winners of its July 22 Beef Draw. Mr. W. Peterahyn, of Bowmanvile, was the first prize winner.
