Lacrosse Bantams win titie BY TOM FRANK Pour Whtby-Garrard Road Lacrosse teams were at tournaments last weekend. The Peacock Ban- tama came up wth a champlonshlp, the Hldeaway Peewees came up wlth the runner-up spot, the First Cty Mldgets got as far as the semi-finals while the Optixulat Novices camp Just-that-close Wo belng in the finals. After losing their flrst game 6-5 to Etobicoke, the Peacock Sports Bantams finlshed their round robing in winnlng style. Goalle Danny McWhrter helped keep that game close by blocklng a penalty shot during the second perlod. Clarkson was beaten by 12-2 and Burllngton was defeated by 12-6. Peacock's only hope of gettlng to the finals was if Etobicoke would lose a game so they took it easy on Orangeville; a littie too easy for they found them- selves down 5-1 before a come from behind victory of 7-6. Orangeville responded Wo their extra- cheering section from Whltby by squeezlng out Etobicoke 9- 8; Whltby was in the finals on their goals-for, average. The final was against Kitchener (the team that bea Whltby at the Hamilton Super-serles). Wlth a lot of motivation from their injured captain Greg Vansickle and strong',defensive play, the Peacock's won 5-3 for the Championshp of the St. Chriatopher House Tourname-nt., Whitby scorers for the weekend were 14 by Wayne Cornlsh, even b Steve Nolan, six by Steve Dym- net, five byey Campbell, threé each by Mike' Cox and Da Vanderlinde and singles by Rlch Dyment, Tom Frank andi Rober Paddlck. For assists, Nolan led wlth 10 followed by Steve Dyment' wlth nine and brother Rlch wlth six. Flrst City Mdgets were, also at St. Christopher, and were undefeated at.the end of round-7robin play wlth wlns like 12-2 over Clarkson and 7-4 over Kit- chener. In the semi-final,' Six Nations overpowered them 15-.
