Durham Reglonal Police say that a 1976 Trans Arn, first obser- ved on Dundas St. E.,e appeared to be racing another car so tbey gave pursuit. Tina Princiotto, a student at St. John the Evangellat School, cap- tured first prize li the commercial division of the Canadian Hemispher Pageant at the Skyline Motel ini Toronto July 2 and 3. Tina, who won a five- foot gold trophy for ber version of- a Burger King commercial, was one of five girls from the Inta Leja Scbool of Modelling and Talent Agency who comblned to win seven awards ai the competition. Other local winners included Shannonl Cluff, Survey for p During the past four weeks, the District Healtb Coundil has been conducting a needs assessment survey for physically handlcapped adults, wlth the- em- phasis 0f the study being on housing and support services. Leanne Doupe bas been employed to collect the data and in- formation for the study, whlch will determlne a need for expansion te the two existlng programs; Par- ticipation House and Cheshire Home, botb operating in Oshawa or a need for additlonal housing facilties in Durham Reglon. Participation House offers seven apartment1 units adapted for the 8, from Osbawa, first place in the Là ttIe Miss Beauty category and third place in Little Miss Model; Shannon Brown, 6, from Port Perry, fourth ulace in Little Miss Model; Renee Pbilllps, 16e from Pickering, first in Miss Model and second in Teen Beauty; and Trina Runco, 14, from Oshawýa, second runner- up in Pbotogenic.' Shannon Cluff, because of ber victory, is eligible to compete la the world finals in Philadelphia July 26 to August 1,- for an estimated $350,000 in prizes, including a movie sereen test. More than 250 Canadians and Americans took part la the fourth annual Canadian pageant. Inta Leja, director of the Whitby Scbool of Modeiling and Talent Agency, was tickled pink that ber under- studies performed 50o weil. "It shows you that we have a lot of talent here,'" she said. "The girls ail have the natural ability and P~m just bringing it out. " Ms. Leja certainly packs an impressive set of credentials. After studying ail forms of dance and theatre at the Arts Educational Sehool and the Royal Academy of Dancing in London, England, she went on to make numerous ihysically handicapped aduli physicaily handicap- ped; accom modating eigbteen people. Medical supervision is also available from the full-time nurse on staff., Participation House is interested la setting up a core facility to ac- commodate. pbysicaily handicapped. in- dividuals who need heavier care and more medical attention. Cheshire Home at present offers a home- like setting with. room for twelve residents. There la no medical supervision and the residents create a family-llke atmosphere. Cheshire Home would like te expand to ac- commodate more pbyslcally handlcapped. Recommendation fr- om the information gatbered wiil be la- cluded in a report and sent to both agencies to. be used la the plans for future expansions. Ms. Doupe bas con- ducted laterviews at several hospitals and nursing homes in the Durham Region. Much support bas been given by staff members and residents of the various facilities. The Coundil wants to include the concerns and suggestions of tbe physicaily handicapped from tbe community la the report. 'They would like te interview physicaily handlcapped mndlviduals or their familles, concerning the need forhousing and television commerclals, performed la a nlght- club duo and, enter- talaed the Canadian Armed Forces on a number of tours tbroughout Europe and the Middle East. More recently she was the Promotion Manager of the Toronto Argo Sunshine Girls. She opened The Studio of Dance and Perfor- ming Arts in Whitby in 1979. The chase then went down Thickson Rd., westbound on Rossland Rd., north on Highway 12 to Thickson Rd., and southbound again. Police finally ap- prebended the suspect, at 2:36 a.m., at Highway 12 and Hopkins St., as they rnanaged to block hirnin. The Trans Arn drove around a couple of road- blocks during the chase and bit two cruisers, causing approximately $1,000 damage to eacb. Andrew IR.
