Visltlng novice teams came from Beaches and from Burllngton. In their firet game, the' WGR major novice, team, sponsored by the Whltby optlmts, juin- ped into a 4-0 Iead over Beaches by the end of the firat period, then held tight for a 7-2 wln. Matthew Cook had 4 scores, Rob Martin had a pair and Brandon Smith had a single. After a haif-hour rest, the Optinmists coasted to a 12-O shutout over Burlington. Cook had 4 more, Martin and Smith had pairs, singles by Greg Fawcett, Derik Ells, David Wood and Jason Pitters. Top playmnakers for the day were Alan Frank, Wood and goal- tender Wayne Paddick with 3 assists each., Sub- stitute goaltender Jeff Taylor earned bis first assist of the year. The teain manager is arranging another mini- series for Victoria Day. The regular season star- ts next week.
