M the GO East expansion are underway with the appointment of seven consulting firms to deal with alignments, muni- cipal liaison and the pre- design of seven seg- ments of GO Transit's inter-regional transit program. "We've already esta- blished a joint MTC-GO team,"p said Communi-i cations Minister James Snow, "for the overaill [TC lays development of the pro- vincially funded project and to ensure regional and local participation. "The consultants will work under the MTC-GO umbrella with, as I've stated from the outset, priority being given to the extension of GO ser- vice east from Picker- ing to Oshawa and west from Oakville to Hamil- ton." The other regional councillor who will sit on the commis- sion in 1983 is Jerome Whitby service sta- tions are waging spora- dic price wars that can save consumers up to 8¢ per litre on regular gasoline. For the "un- metric", that's about 28¢ a gallon. A Free Press survey of 16 Whitby gas stations shows prices plumeted last week from an aver- age of 44.9 to as low as 35.3¢ per litre for regular gasoline. But consumers who want to get in on the ac- tion should fill up now, because fickle prices can change daily. "We could go down to- morrow, or we could go back up," says a spokes- man for the Esso station at Thickson Road and Dundas Street. "We really don't know what will happen each day." Although prices throughout Whitby have fallen an average of 8¢ per litre, the price wars are very localized. The four stations at Thick- son Road and Dundas Street boasted the iden- tical price of 37.1¢ per litre last Monday. "We are in direct competition with the other three stations," the Esso spokesman said. "Our price is set by Imperial Oil, but I call each day and tell them what the price across the street is." On Brock Street, the price war brought regu- lar gasoline down to 35.5¢ per litre at the Gain Gas Bar and Pron- to Self Serve. Prices at self-serve stations aver- aged about 1¢ per litre cheaper than full- service centres. Regular unleaded gasoline prices were sit- ting at between 37 and 39¢ per litre early this week. -1 LIMITED TIME ONLY AUSTiN TOPPER IMNEY SWEEPS INC• off "COAST TO COAST" Have Your Chimney Swept By Jan. 26/83.
