It is handcombecl fromn the underbelles of Kashmir goats in Tibet, Mongolia and China once a year. The hair from one goat makes a scarf. Threê-goats are need- ed to make a man's sweater. Most cashmere is shipped halfway around the world, to Scotland, to be made into fabric. This is due to the expert reputation of Scottish weavers. Untit the turn of the century, and the advent of cen- tral heating, most cashmere was woven into underwear and hoslery, because of its extreme softness and warmth. Today cashmere is used mostly for sweaters, coats andi dresses. The natural- Iy white, grey or tan f iber is briliIantly dyed. Designers are using cashmere more than ever before for its llghtweight and durable luxury. Scar. clty of this-f iber, how. ever, has caused Its price to skyrocket. If you are lucky enough to own thîs precious fabrlc, you know It requires spe- clal handîing because it ls prone to shrink- age and feîtlng. K & M Cîsanors remlnds you that cashmere should always be drycleaned. 112 COLBORN E ST.
