( That's how 48-year- old Don Breen feit about >0 s s e - being named employee of the year by 31, co- workers at the Townof Whitby's public works depotoà n Taunton Roadý " IIt's-a great feeling bo know the other employ- ces think that mhuch of you," said Breen, who was honoured Dec. 10 at an annual dinner. The award is only tWo years old, and was created. by ýworkers at the depot who wanted to single out employees who have a good atti-, tude, are easy to get âlong with and are "dail- round nice people". Breen is a "lead hand" with the works department, supervis- inig road crews in main- tenance and construc- tion work. A native of Queens- ville, Ontario (near Newmarket), he came to Whitby in 1960 to fol- 10w in the footsteps of his father,. who worked for the town of Whitby for 15 years. He and his wife Yvonne and their two '.sons, 'Gary and Ross, live on Centre Street iWhitby. "There have been a lot of changes since I've been bore," Breen told, the Free Press. Among the biggest development bas been the amnalgama- tion of. the Town of Whitby with the Town- ship of Whitby. For Breen, that has meant a lot more roads to maintain. Instead of taking care of just the area south of Rossland Road, he and his crews now look after road maintenance as far nor- thi as Brooklin and Ash- burn. Breen has workcd at thc town's Mary Street, Victoria Street and Taunton Road plants in his 22 years of service.. g o i gag' g, VIT a,..
