He has been chairman of the commission for the past two years and has served six terms as such. He is also second vice-president of the Eastern Ontario Munici- pal Electric Associa- tion. Bob was a Whitby businessman for 25 years. Whitby Hydro Com- mission has a $12 million annual budget and a capital invest- ment of approximately $8 million. This ,srequires consi- derable ongoing management on the part of staff and com- mission. The commission is presently building a new service centre and warehouse on Taunton Road East valued at ap- proximately $1 million. Whitby is a growing community, and we will be watching the Brook- lin development over the next few years. By LARRY NORRENA Larry Norrena is a homeowner of Whitby, a parent, an OHEU union steward, and an electri- cal operator for Ontario Hydro. Norrena, one of 500 operators who con- trol the electrical sys- tem grid in Ontario, has controlled the high volt- age system supplying Whitby. Norrena says "I sup- port hand delivery of bills, and in Markham's case, the meter reader's preparation of the bill right on the spot. The utilities doing this are saving their customers tens of thousands of dol- lars...something we all can appreciate. Preparing for the future I would enact changes in the Power Corporations Act to allow municipal utilities to set their own, more equitable rates, to resi- dential customers who seil electricity back to the utility. A utility doing this would in fact open the market doors to a young industry already in the multi-million dollar bracket in research and development, world- wide. I believe Whitby could be a leader here with the results benefiting us all. Larry Norrena is a candidate for one of the four Whitby Hydro Electrie Commission seats. He feels Whitby H.E.C. should follow North York's lead of allowing only a 6 per cent increase to its customers after Hydro's announced 8.2 per cent rate increase. John served Hydro McKinney has on the Whitby Electric Com- mission for 12 years, and bas been chairman of the commission for five of those years. A niedical doctor who has lived in Brooklin for more than 35 years, Mc- Kinney was chairman of the committee that re- structured the distribu- tion of electricy in Durahm Region several yearsago. McKinney is commit- ted to providing electri- city at cost, and will continue to ensure the commission runs. effi- ciently. While he served on the commission, it won the President's Cup for safety, and has provided hydro at rates similar to or better than those in Ajax and Oshawa.
