Crecdit advice In a society where i- flation, unexnployment, soaring interest and mortgage rates are fac- te of -ouf economy, it, is not difficult to see how the average citizen can run into financiai pro- blems. It was due to these ele- mente and others that the Oshawa and District Credit Counsellilîg Ser- vice was first estabiish- ed in 1969. Originaily, volunteers acted* as counseilors.. Today the Oshawa branch empioys five staff members. Two of these are clerical, two' are counseilors, who along with director Nancy Chamberlain, are backed by the ex- pertise of a board of directors. Aithougli some changes have taken place over the years, the basic purpose of the ser- vice remnains the same; to provide credit coun- selling on a free confi- dential basis to, those in need. United' Way shares in this ne.cessary service to the public' in our district. The first interview calling to ask for assist- ance involves an assess- ment of financial status.
