The season opens in grand style with one of two festival entries, "Cabaret." The play tells a bittersweet love story set amrid the deca- dence and menace of Berlin at the onset of the Nazi era. Whitby Thea- tre Company will tackle ~4' .j ~this popular and de- ,.~..manding musical for presentation in Novem- ~ .4.~,.ber. The second play and festival entry in the sub- scription series is "The Passion of Dracula", a genuine horror-thriller with added fillips of unique special, effects and black comedy, pre- sented late February. Rouncling out the sub- scription series in May is "Nurse Jane Goes to w . .Hawai". 'Directed by Hal Needham and produced by Albert S. Ruddy, "Megaforce" is expectedto open soon at a local theatre. Combiming ultra- sophisticated weaponry with a collection of the best fighting men ini the free world, the mythical militia known as Mega- force swings into action to save a small, demo- cratic nation from i- vading mercenaries em- ployed by an unfriendly neighbor. Bostwick plays the leader of these larger-than-life legion- aires, with Beck as bis chief lieutenant. Kham- batta is the daughter of the president of the threatened country with Muihare as the com- mander of its army. Ar- ch vilain Silva mar- shals the mercenary forces who appear to be a formidable match for the regiments of the resistance. This is the second time Needbam and Ruddy bave pooled their talents, havlng teamed last year for the top- grossing bit "The Can- nonball Run," with an ail-star cast headed by Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore and Farrah Faw- cett.» In. "Megaforce," they've also assembled a strong supporting cast wbich includes Robert Fuller, Ralph Wilcox, Evan Kim, Michael Car- yen, J. Victor Lopez and Anthony Penya. Special visual effects for "Megaforce" were conceived by Zoran Perisic, who won an Academy Award for bis work on "Superman." The music was compos- ed by Jerrold Immel, who retently scored "Death Hunt" and, "Si- lence of the North,." "Megaforce" is a Gol- den Harvest Presenta- tion of an Albert S. Rud- dy Production of a Hal Needham Film. Releas- ed through 2th Cen- tury-Fox, it stars Barry Bostwick, Michael Beck, Persis Kham- batta, Edward Muihare, George Furth and Henry Silva.
