Sol Development Limited told the town Iast week Lhey will ap- peal council's decision to deny a rezoning appli- cation for the property. The site is located on the north side of Dundas Street East just east of Bowman Avenue. The developers needed the land'rezoned from residentialý to commiercial so that they could build a 21,297 square foot store. Area residents op- posed the project on the grounds that the business would en- croach onto the resi- dential area. Residents also feared that traffic entering the development would spill over into the local streets. They also said that the developer pro- mised that the land would remain residen- fiai. When the rnatter was originally beforeecoun- cil, residents main- tained that the develop- ment did not conform to either the Town of Whita by's or the Region of Durham's official plan. While council upheld the residents' request to keep the northern part of the site residential it ordered the planning department to study the part along Dundas Street for possible commercial develop- ment.- Jovial Investments bas indicated that iL desires to build a restau- rant and a convenience store on this strip. As of press time, iL was not known whether or not the 0MB had granted a hearing or if a date for a hearing had been set.
