For the first tizne we visited the Carretto Tavern at 601 Dundas Street West in Whtby on Sunday evening and it was a pleasant evening of delicious food and pleasant conversation. The owner, Saverio Galluci, bought the Carretto about a year ago, and is pleased wth the way business has been going. He learned the business in various restaurants in Europe and has been at it for over 20Oyears. The Carretto has a cave-like decor, com- fortable sof t chairs, red table cloths, ail of which lend an atmosphere of eïegance. The Carretto features specialties sueki as veal parmigiana, chicken Carretto, steak pizziola and others. There are soups and salads, special dishes for pasta loyers, steaks and sea food dishes. Two weeks ago Saverlo started a lun- cheon special with two of them on the menu daily. Lunch 15 served from noon until 2 p.m. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday there is entertainment with live music. Reservations are nove being taken for Christmas parties and New Year's Eve. Phone 686-1542 or 668-3277. With this in mind, -we vislted Steve's place last week at 922 Simcoe north, in Oshawa. We were ushered to a small room with several tables, and a decor in the old English style. The waiters were attentive, and we were served wine and then salad. -Hot garlic bread and a plate of olives and dill pickles * were also placed on the table. Steve's Steak House and Tavern can now handie up to 110 people. It has been enlarged fromn the size of the original building and several dining areas have been ad- ded. There is a room that can cater to receptons, banquets or private parties. The lounge is comfortable with 10w tables and soft chairs for relaxing while listening to the organ '.and piano. Steve's specializes in steaks and seafoods, although the menu offers a variety of items that are bound te satisfy anyone's tastes. Before we ajourned t6 the lounge, - manager Trevor Lund stopped by our table and fWled us in on a .few of the details of Steve's Steak House. The decor is a mix- ture of Old Engiish and Spanish.
