Con test winner says....@ "4We 9're For the last ten years, this publication has been known as "The Voice of the County Town. " With the onset of regional governmeflt seven years ago it has given us second thoughts about the use of the phrase "County Town". For most of its history, the Town of Whitby was the seat of the County of Ontario from which "County Town" was derived. The town is now the seat of the Region of Durham. So, the decision was made to change our slogan. The Free Press held a contest, asking our readers to corne up with a new one, with tickets to upcoming Toronto concerts as prizes. The first place wirmer of our contest is Rob Craw- ford of 1007 Athol Street who has won two floor seat tickets to both the AC/DC and Genesis concerts at Maple Leaf Gardens in the near future. Crawford's slogan is "We're here to say."P The second prize winner of two tickets to see Alice Cooper in concert was Susan Atherton of Broolin. Her slogan was "Big enough to get the job done - But small enough to show we care. " Yvette St. Clair of loi White Oaks Court won tickets to sec Barry Manilow as the third prize win- ner. St. Clair's submission was "The cornmunity paper tha t cares. " This newspaper is sorry that it cannot give prizes to ail the entrants who submitted some extremely creative slogans. As an honorable mention, we would like to share with our readers some of -the other entries that we received. They are: "The paper that-never gives up" - submitted by Wayne Patz of 306 Chestnut Street; "The beginning of today's history" - Christine Loveridge, 105 Calais Street; "A caring paper for a caring community" - Gregg Tilston of 7O.,1eslute.Cr.e5,.;,ý "'Small paper i n a big world - Big news in a small paper" - Also by Gregg Tilston; "The diary of Whitby's heritage" - Daryl Taylor of 98 Garrard Road, and "Anything 'free' is worth looking into" - Laurie Vipond of Casels Road, Brooklin.
