m à Broklin Bylines Eir. ey Roxanne Revelerj Hi There: Why is it whatever you buy on Saturday goes on sale first thing Monday morning? LIBRARY NEWS Where have all the children gone? In the past, the library has had as many as 20 children joining in the fun at Saturday morning story hour from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This year's program started September 12, and the response has been very disappointing. If you have children from three years of age and up please keep this in mind. It's a great opportunity for them to be doing something on Saturday mor- ning while mom does the shopping, baking or what- ever. The pre-school story hour and Tuesday Adult Dis- cussion Group will commence another nine week session October 20, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The size of the group is limited so please register now to avoid disappointment. The first session will be about "home computers" - there will be a display, discussion about their possible uses, and a demon- stration. The children in the pre-school section should be three to five years old, and be able to take part without mom in attendance. This is a pre- school learning experience which will include games, crafts and music. The "Which Witch Will Win The Witch" contest is under way and many of the children have the required ten books. There are some really enthu- siastic readers in the junior section. There is a new service available through your library. It is the Community Information Service. A cail to the main branch, 668-6531, with any type of problem or question, be it personal or otherwise will receive their utmost effort to aid you in solving the dilemma or puzzle. Many diverse questions have been fielded already and the popularity and usefull- ness of this service is growing daily. ASHBURN NEWS Burns Presbyterian Church, Ashburn, will cele- brate anniversary services on Sunday, October 18, 1981 at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Reverend James McKay of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, Oshawa will be our guest speaker. St. Luke's choir will present special music at both services. GARAGE SALE A garage sale will be held at St. Thomas's Church, corner of Anderson and Winchester Streets, on Saturday, October 17 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Proceeds will be for restoration and improvement works on this historic Brooklin building. C.F. DANCE-A-THON , A dance-a-thon will be held on November 14, 1981 at the Brooklin Community Centre. It is sponsored by the Brooklin and District Kinettes and ail the proceeds will be going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foun- dation. For further information and sponsor sheets please contact Leslie McCabe at 655-3693. The spon- sor sheets will be available at the October Teen Dance also. SECOND HAND ROSE? What a fantastic idea. The Second Brooklin Ladies Auxiliary of the Boy Scouts of Canada now has a convenor. Mothers with uniforms to sell should remove ail badges carefully, wash and press, and take them to Mrs. Plummer. She also has a variety of used uniforms for sale. If you need a beaver, cub, or scout uniform, or have one you wish to sell, please call 668-5955 for directions and information. ATTENTION GRADS Saturday, October 24, 1981 is Graduation Day at Anderson C.V.I. The ceremonies commence at 2:30 p.m. with an evening dance starting at 8:30 p.m. The price of tickets for the dance are $2 per person and include a lunch. An invitation is extended to students and guests to attend and help celebrate a joyous occasion. TIP OF THE WEEK If you are like me, you like your laundry, especially the whites to be sparkling and clean. Up until now I thought the only way the whites got white was to pack the bleach to the laundry....wrong! Strange as it sounds, follow my advice and your wash will be white as can be without using bleach that breaks down and sometimes destroys fibres. It is nice to give those white unbleachables a sparkle too. To hot water and your regular detergent add a half cup of automatic dishwasher detergent. You will be impressed at how well it works. What is happening to basic civility these days? Perhaps it is just me - but I notice it happening more frequently that people are not only uncivil, but sometimes downright rude. How many times, in department stores have you searched for sales staff in vain? When, and if you locate them, they are usually congregated together, and if perchance you should interrupt their conversation the looks received could stop a clock. Why do I always get the feeling they are doing me the greatest of favours by taking my money? I suppose I am being "old fashioned", but what- ever happened to friendly and courteous service?, After ail, a pleasant word and a warm smile doesn't cost a thing. As a matter of fact it is probably the best investment anyone could make. You are usually assured of a hundred per cent return... now that's terrific odds. Unfortunately as machines get to be more and more like man, men will come to be more like machines. See you next week.......Roxanne Reveler Brooklin Bakery drop off Friday, by noon please 655-4951.
