" The last of the four finalists is Henry Perry, and although he is of n0 relation to the man who founded WhitbY, he is generally accorded with being just as active in the affairs of the coin- munity. Perry served as the churcb warden for four years and bas been the chairinan of its cemetary board for 25 years. However, he is probably best known for bis involvement with Branch 112 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Perry joined because: "I'm a veteran myseif." I From 1942 to 1945 he served with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in England and Western Europe. "And, I tbînk the Legion's good. He took on the job of memnbership chairman and beld it for 14 years and managed to re-interest several drop-outs and attract new people. He bas also served the longest continuous term as president of the brancb from 1976 to May, 1981. "I really feit, after five years, somebody else should get in. " Since leaving the presidency, Perry bas moved on to zone com- mander for Whitby, Brooklin, Ajax, Oshawa, Bay Ridges, Bowmanville, Uxbrldge and Port Perry.
