Thornton set a new standard for future students (o foliow, in last Wednesday's Ajax-Whitby Track and Field Meet. Af ter day long competition, Thornton qualified 43 students for the regional meet. The day itself was one of excitement for the children, as many fellow classmates produced ribbon after ribbon. From the track events to the field events, victory after victory came. Junior and senior boys and girls both placed weil. High Points were lead by super efforts from Michelle Dearsley and Jim Phipher, each winning, respectively theclassic 1500 M. Race. Not to be outdone, our lightning, quick runners Tom Clark, Michelle Dittrick and Paul Gray showed excellent speed in winning their 100 M. dashes. Roxanne Kwan, Suzanne Pearsonn, and Feronen Neil lead the Junior level by breezing by the op- position in their dashes. Our jumpers, lead by John Pipher, Mike Krasnay, Stephanie Sears and Michelle Dittrick, showed win- ning colours. Even the shot put event was invaded by our athietes, lead by Michelle Squareistta's win- ning put. Finally, the determined efforts by the reiay teams, lead to 6 relay teams qualifying out of a possible 12 competing. Two others came third as well. In ahl, it can be said that Dr. Robt. Thornton students, teachers and parents can be proud of their school. School spirit and morale is at an ahI time high, thanks. to our dedicated students.
