M Whitby Free Press YOUR DINING PLEASURE with Barry Murkar.... Local restaurants making efforts to aid handicapped Most of us take good health, strong legs and arms for granted, but what about handicapped persons? It never occurs to most of us that the person in a wheelchair likes to go out for dinner once in a while the same as the rest of us. We have been asked about restaurants in the Durham area that have entrances that will accommodate a person confined to a wheelchair. This week we phoned a large number of the dining spots in this area with that question, and were pleased to learn that most of them not only have access for these vehicles, but welcome these people for luncheons or dinner. We list a number of them here for you to make your own choice. Grenada Restaurant, Sheridan Mall, Pickering, can be entered from either the north door or the front doors. A ramp is provided at the south doors. LeChalet, Dundas St., in Whitby has parking at the rear and easy entrance to the dining room. Special washrooms are being built to accommodate the han- dicapped. Baby contest The Whitby Jaycettes are sponsoring a Spring Baby Photo Contest as a ways and means project for their organization. Only the first 50 snapshots, 3" x 5", one child per photo, will be ac- cepted. Babies under three years old as of December 31, 1980 are eligible for entry. Entry forms can be picked up at Whitby and Brooklin Banks and Manchester Credit Union in Whitby and Brooklin. Closing date for entries is March 20. A display will be set up in front of "Whitby Mall Florists" in Whitby Mall (Hwy. 2 & Thickson Rd.) from March 25 to April 8, 1981. Voting will be done by the public during mall hours. Containers will accompany each photo and a penny dropped in the container registers one vote; 10¢ equals 10 votes, $1 equals 100 votes. etc. The top three babies will be presented with Bank Saving Certificates.
