PAGE 6, WEDNESDA Y, OCTOBER 24, 1979, WHITBY FREE PRESS Henry Sireet -BySUE McCALLUM Heiry St. 111gb Sehool With the.achool year weil in progress, the students here at Henry are gettlng a little nervous as we are preparing ourselves for the Mid-term Examinations starting on Friday, October 26 and contiuing through until- November 1. The testing is broken up for five days to have one period a day for the assignedexams. This marks the halfwaypoint for semester 1. The marks we receive after testing is over wii let us know how well, or how badly we are doing., The semester system waà7once a point-that made Henry Street unique as it was the only high sehool in the 'Durhamn Region that used this system. It brought many students from Oshawa, Pickerinig, Port Perry and surrounding areas th our sohool and made it overflowing and hectic for teachers and counsellors at the beginning of the sehool year in September. The seméster system is truly the best system yet designed for students. It la broken up in two terms: semester one andsemester two. There are four 75 min. classes. Students here may take four classes until January, and another four begin after final exams. This enables some students to finish a ful year in Januray and either work fultime or. begin college. It also lightens the homework load, -and gives students a change halfway through the year. Somne students travel quite a- way la get to Henry, but after talking la a few who travel the distance every day 1 found-that they are qulte satisfied with' the school's system and the students who make up Henry's population of 1300 people. Yesterday, here at the school was a fun day for aIl of uswho happened to bein grade 13. You see we were ail tld la roil up our sleeves, and turn Our heads, if we have to, and receive immunization shots. These shots help prevent polio, tetnis and dip- theria. For moat of us our last shots were la grade 8 or 9. No one reaily enjoyed them that much, but I have la say, we were ail quite brave. On Friday, November 2, we here at Henry, welcome back lour Grads. la the Annual Commnen- cement Night. Last but. certainly flot least la our school, is our great football teamas. Along with both the Junior and Senior teanis, we are qulte pleased on how they are doing. The Juniors team are going very well, as theY have won 4 out of 5 games se far this year. Our Seniors have won ail 4 games including the Mayor's Cup. And they are definitely getting better every trne they play. So any opposlng teams better watch eut, we are net only getting eider, we're getting bet- ter! 1And, of course, we expect both Our teams, tlabe la the Quarter Finals at the civlc Auditoriumn, on November 1, 2 and 3.
