A second meeting has been planned for August 8th at 8:00 p.m4 in the Committee Romm of the Town Hall, Whitby to discuss the spon- sorship program and what it invojves. Every adult person in the Whitby area is wel- come and Mr. Schneider added that "We won't turn anyone else away either, but we are hoping essentially for, a good response from Whitby residents. Jaycees win awards At the National Convention of the Canada Jaycees held ôn July 11-14 in St. John's Newfoundland, the Whitby Jaycees and Jaycettes were presented with a number of National Awards. The Jaycettes were judged the Outstanding Unit and received à silver cup emble- matic of the top unit in Canada. The Jaycees received the Presidential Award of Excel- lence and a first-place éerti- ficate in Arrangements and Fellowship. In addition they were awarded second place certificates in Youth Activi- ties Newsletter and Interna- tional Affairs. On the strength of their years work, they. were awarded another second place certificate, for thé. Outstanding Unit in towns 'of their population across Canada. Co-op gets grant Whitby, along with Ajax and Oshawa, co-operative housing projects have recei- ved $24,000 from the Central Mortgage and Housing Cor- poration (CMHC). The projects are designed to provide affordable hous- ing for moderate and low income families under the guidance of the East Central Ontario Development Foun- dation. Funding for organization work ($500) was received last monthbythe. County Town Co-operative Homes of Whitby. The co-operative has recei- ved $8,000 (its share of·the $24,000) to cover administra- tion costs. The co-operative is a non- profit corporation owned by shareholders. The project hás one tax bill, one mortgage, and one insurance policy. Members pay these costs and manage the corporation themselves. The corporation is now trying to find financially suitable housing for it's inembers. Schooling winners As part of the County Town Carnival, Pine Wood Place held a Schooling Horse Show •July 28. Forty-one horses and their riders battled two heavy rain show, but somehow came out smiling, winning ribbons and trophies, on an overcast but pleasant day. Spectators and competi- tors.once again enjoyed the excitement of the classes, the jumps, the western games, the trophy winners and the food served by Pine Wood. The winners of the compe- titions were: FLAT TROPHY Goldseeker King, ridden by Allyson Connell of Little Britain. The runner-up was Little Redd Dude, ridden by Leslie Anne·Connell, also of Little Britain. JUMPING-TROPHY Copper's Inmge, ridden by Jane Walker of Stouff- ville. The runner-upg was Canjà ridden by Leslie White of, Oshawa. WESTERN TROPHY Cinèh Bic, ridden by John Alden of Zephyr. The runner-ups was Mr. Kahok Bars, ridden by David Boyce of Whitby. HIGH POINT TROPHY Canja, ridderi by Leslie White of Oshawa. The runner-up was Copper's Image, ridden by Jane Walker of Stouffville.
