April 21 at Garden Street Park ' in the Bantam divi- sion, the Whitby Longmuir Builders defeated the Oshawa Rangers 4-1 with two goals be Fred D'Andrea, and singles by Mike Luchka and Joe Bryant. At haîf-time, the score was 2-O for Whitby. It was a good game, con- sidering it was Whitby's first get together as a team. Whitby's Bantam team is made up of some of last year's Bantams, last year's Pee Wees, a couple of last year's House League players and one new addition. Longmuir Builders dom- inated play throughout with Oshawa's only goal coming from an indirect free kick insidethe Whitby 18 yard box after one of their players was obstructed. The Rangers missed on a penalty kick aït the 48-minute mark. Fred D'Andrea started the scoring when he headed in a Spyros Spyrou, corner kick and got his second when he pDicked up a nice Greg Borchuk pass. Mike Luchka made it 3-o on a niée individual effort, and Joe Bryant finished off the scoring after a fine passing effort and good work by Fred D'Andrea. In one of the first exhibi- tion games of the season, April 24 ýat Peel Park, the Whitby Junior soccer team defeated the Whitby Old- timers 5-3 with goals by Richard Greaves, Alistair b egin the Clarke, Tony Aibis (penalty kick), Paul Hunt and Garvin Clarke. Scoring for the Oldtimers Were Vern Ralph, ,and Ray Calaghan. 'The Junior defense scored an own goal also. It was a good even game with the Juniors getting the most chances, but they were a bit rusty as far as finishing off was concerned. The Junior defense had some shaky moments but on the whole was quite strong. Richard Greaves took ad- vantage of an Oldtimers mis- take to give the Juniors the first goal. Alistair Clarke then converted a Garvin Clarke pass anid Tony Aibis made no mistake* from the penalty spot to make it 3-0. The Oldtimers then came WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, MAY 2e,1979, PAGE il 1979* soccer season back and tled the game up after only two minutes of the second haîf, but Paul Hunt on an individual effort again put the Juniors ahead and then Garvin Clarke. capped off a Richard Greaves-Bob Lilly play to finish the scoring.
