Mr. O'Keefe said he does not know what form the master plan will take, but he would like to see the hospital housed in one building or a structure that is connected. Presently the hospital con- sists of about 30 separate buildings spread out over a large tract of land. According to Mr. O'Keefe, the new hospital will have 470 beds as determined by a recent role study. The hospi- tal has 533 beds now, he said. A the present time the hospital staff have been meeting with the architects on space requirements for all departments and have nearly completed a func- tional space program for the new hospital, said Mr. O'Keefe. He estimates that the new hospital, over-all, will require less square footage than the present one. He expects the total figure to be 400,000 to 425,000 square feet. Construction could start in 1980, says Mr. O'Keefe, and he assumes it would take two to two and a half years to complete the job.
