PIAGE 6, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18, 1979, WHITBY FREE PRESS A Trudeau decade w*ll« be- a disaster says NDP candidate "If we have another decade of Trudeau i-t won't be a decade of development; it will be a decade of disas- ter," said Geoff Rison, a teacher with 22 years ex- perience. Hie was speaking following his acceptance of the nomi- ~nation as federal candidate for the New Democratie Party in Ontario Riding. He thinks that "Trudeau has been playing the Ring-A- Ring of Rosy game. Most people know that it is a Middle Ages story."1 Mr. Rison explained that the story began "1during the plague when people were dying on the streets and almost everywhere. During the plague people went around. in circles, fell down and died. After watching Trudeau, 1 hope he will continue to go round in circles politically then finally fails down and dies politically," he said. Speaking of Joe Clark, the NDP candidate said, "Clark seems to have bis left foot on his right ieg or in his rnouth."1 Mr. Rison said, "he is congtantly changing bis mind about Medicare. He changes bis mind- about so many things; there doesn't really seem to be anything on his mind." I But Mr. Rison went on to Say that the three Federal leaders, "ail agree we want to keep Canada together. We don't know who can manage to handie this difficult problem. Unity is fot an issue, really, as we ail agree we want an United Canada." Speaking on the economy of the Country Mr. Rison said, "the farmn policy of this government is almost des- troying the farm economy. If we don't watch our step we wiil be without a farm economy."p He pointed out-that, "'al tomato paste that is pur- chased in the stores of Canada" is imported frorn Portugal. "If we don't watch out we woni't have a farm tomato industry."1 Mr. Rison went on to say that the "1chain stores are locked into a contract, where they have got tW buy lettuce al year round and import it In order to have it at Christmas time."y As. a result during the growing season in Canada the' produce is not being accepted by the chain stores Mr. Rison said, due to the Chain Store contracts with importers in' order to have lettuce in stores at Christ- mas. "Thus our own superior farm products--lettuce, tomatoes, etc., are not sold in the chain stores. We are losing that market as a resuit of the contracts. Also a resuit of the contracts we will lose our farm economy if something isn't done to pro- teet it."'%1 Mr. Rison concluded his acceptance speech by saying, ."the. NDP is coming into union with the labour movement." Tom Edwards, of Whitby, stood up and said he saw Mr. Rison among a group of Cont'd on P. 7 jfamily pak, 7 to 9 chôp s Canada l'ancy.
