PAGE 14, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11, 1979, WHITBY FREE PRESS "Luck be a Lady"on April 14 Four of the Marg Connelly Dancers will be appearing in the Cabaret entertainment at the Regal Room in Whitby Centennial Building, Satur- day April 14, when the Whitby Theatre Company presents, "ILuck Be A Lady Night. 1 The format for the evening comprises various games of chance; Roulette, Black- Jack, Crown and Anchor, etc. As well as the Connelly Dancers, the Cabaret will also feature a comedy rou- tine by Jim Renshaw and Harry McKew. Gamblers who become too engrossed to leave the gamb- ling tables and go to the Bar, may have their drinks brought to the tables by Can-Can girls, who will be on hand. WHUTBY LIONS CLUB PR ESENTS "AÀ TOAST TO SPRING BALL" Luck Be A Lady Night is one of a number of fund-rais- ing events planned by the Theatre Company to raise their half of a twelve thons- and dollar outlay for new lighting and sound equip- ment in their theatre. The other haif will be* met through a recently received Wintario Grant. Il The scrapping of the old equipment is a significant milestone in the fortunes of the Whitby Theatre Com- pany. It signais the end of an era of 'Make do, and Mend' which lait taxed the resourcefulness of aý number of ingenious members over the past few years. Other fund raising plans include a direct mail appeal to the Industries and Commerce of Whitby, as well as local Service Clubs. "Luck Be A Lady Night"' gets under way at 8 p.m. Admission price for the entire* evening is $1. IItems stolen -from locker Durham Regional Police are looking for a number of items stolen from a locker belonging to Orrell Zinn, a resident of the Whiteoaks Court apartments. Police said the locker had been lockedand was broken into. Stolen from the storage locker were a radio, an eight-track tape and a pair of binoculars. There was no estimated value of the goods stolen, police said. The break-in and theft oecurred March 25. Photo by Bob Nelson Street closed as part of. development TÈhe Ope rations Committee of Council has approved the recommendation that the necessary legal steps be taken ta close Stewart Street north of Frederick Street. This is in the area formerly known as the Jones Subdivi- sion, just east of Anderson Street. The closure of the street will affect only the unopened portion of Stewart Street located north of Frederick Street. This is being done as a proposed development by the Paramount Developers north of this area will be providing its own entrances ta this portion of land-, Which. is vacant and in the process of being developed. Also accepted and ap- proved by the Operations Committee was the closing of a public laneway in the Macedonian Village located south of Brooklin west of Highway 12. It is a 16-foot, six inch wide parcel of land that was intended ta be a public laneway. The property to the east of the laneway is owned by the Central Lake Ontario Con- servation Authority and they are not interested in any walkway entrance at this location.
