Films are shown at >4 p.m. in the auditorium on Wednes- days and are approximately 30 to 40 minutes in length. Films for January are: ja~n. 17, The Selfish Giant, Jan.24, Goliath and Morris the Midget Moose, and Jan. 31, The Cricket in Times Square. There will be a travel-film, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, featuring Switzerland. WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP A workshop in painting in watercolor, will be condu cted by Harold Klunder at the Whitby Arts Station Gallery Jan. 27 and 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The first day will be for teen- agers and the second day for adults. Mr. Klunder who has a current exhibit at the Station will lead a one-day seminar for each group, designed to give exposure to -abstract design elements through the use of watércolor and col- lage. Participants are asked to bring a current magazine, milk cartons or other car- tons, various types of packa- ging, styrofoam, leaves, twigs, nuts and any other small scale household odds and ends., Also bring the paintingmaterialsbyou have, on hand and there will be various materials and pap- ers provided at the gallery. Road closed through school yard The Council members concurred last week with the Staff recommendation that a by-law be prepared and passed "to stop-up and close the untraveled Gilbert Street road allowance." That forms a part of the King Street School playground. It is located between King and Henry Streets. The portion of Gilbert Street that forms the King Street School playground and has done so for a number of years contains 17,274 square feet. The property owners abutting this portion of Gilbert Streetthave been contacted by Town Officials and the indication the Officials received is that the property owners "are not prepared to purchase the property in the future. It was also pointed out that the Commissioner o Durham Region Public Works Department, W.A. Twelvetrees has advised the Town Officials that the "Region has no objection to the road closure." THEATRE PRODUCTION The Whitby Theatre Company will be presenting five performances of a comedy called "The Effects f Gamma Rays on Man-in- the-Moon Marigolds," at the end, of January and the beginning of February. Under the direction of Judith Edmondsôn, the play will be presented Jan. 30 to Feb. 3 in the Whitby Centennial Building theatre. A special show for senior citizens will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30, while all other performances for the gene- ral public public begin at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are avail- able at Middleton's Book Store on Dundas Street, West.- "The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds" by Paul Zindell deals with a harsher, yet somehow vulnerable side of hf e. On the peripheral of the plot a silent, semi-senile old lady intrudes daily on the fantasier of Beatrice Hunsdorfer. Renting space to this aged nuisance provides income for Beatrice and her two teenage daughters; Ruth, a self-centered unsure loud- mouth, and Mathilda, a quiet concerned student whose restricted world receives a ray of hope when, trough a science projeet at school, she is introduced to the miracle of the atom. But it is at Beatrice the dreamer that lifes disap- pointments -hit . hardest: For,, Beatrice, everything that has happened to her was "somebody elses" fault and she is incapable of realizing why! Guest speaker will be physiotherapist, Mrs. Pat Hedley, presenting an illus- trated talk on "Mobility and Fitness after a Stroke". The Stroke Recovery Association strives to help stroke survivors return to a full productive life, by means of encouragement, education, example and friendly contact.
