The council also agreed to extend his retirement date, five years beyond the age of 60 which is the usual eut-off. point for senior f ire employees. Deputy Chief Hawkins said he was pleased that he would not have to retire until 65 because he would be 'g afforded, better pension benefits. Deputy Chief Hawkins has served in the Whitby Fire Department for 12 years. In 1969 he was appointed Captain and became director of the department's training program. On the retirement of Deputy Chief Warren Mowat in 1974, Capt. Hawkins became Deputy Chief.
