The Country Store in the basement of the Station Gallery at Henry and Victoria Streets will have special treats for those with a sweet tooth, and refresh- ments including hot cider will be availabIe. A- highlight of the event will be the draw Sunday-at 4 p-.m. organized, by- the Whitby Craft Group for a hand-made queen-size quilt. Anyone wishing to purchase a ticket in advance for the quilt can stop at the Station and pick one Up. Admission to the Olde Tyme C hristmnas is free. Susan Muir and her daughters, Bethany, 4, and Katie, 2, are making Christmas a famnily affair as they prepare for Whitby Arts' annual Olde Tyme Christmas. Old Tyme Christmas will be held at the Station Gallery, Victoria and Henry Streets, Dec. 1 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Dec. 2 and 3 from noon to 5 p.m. Pictured with the Muirs is a hand-made queen-size quilt which will be the subject of a draw Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. Free Press Photo Our. deputy.fire chie f goes to AJax On Dec. 11, Ron l-awkin;s, Deputy Chief 'of the Whitby Fire Department since 1974, will become the first Deputy Chief of the Ajax Fire Department., Ajax Council agreed Nov. 20 to hire Deputy Chief Hawkins, and pay him the salary of a first class fire fighter-- plus 35 per cent, which according to the exist- ing 'Collective agreement amounts to nearly $25,000. The council also agreed to extend his retirement date, five years beyond the age of 60 which is the usual eut-off. point for senior f ire employees. Deputy Chief Hawkins said he was pleased that he would not have to retire until 65 because he would be 'g afforded, better pension benefits. Deputy Chief Hawkins has served in the Whitby Fire Department for 12 years. In 1969 he was appointed Captain and became director of the department's training program. On the retirement of Deputy Chief Warren Mowat in 1974, Capt. Hawkins became Deputy Chief. Mayor Jim Gartshore was recently in contact with the community of Whitby in the Turks and Caicos Islands, 575 miles southwest of Miami Florida. Whitby Ontario is present- ly twinned with Whitby, England, and has been in contact with the new community,-of Whitby, New Zealand.
